VETERANS ART EXHIBITION CALL FOR ART
The Maine Arts Commission invites Maine veterans to submit artwork for the annual Veterans Art Exhibition, presented through the Art in the Capitol program.
The exhibition offers Maine veterans an opportunity to showcase their artistic work and share their creative practices with the wider community.
Selected artwork will be displayed on the second floor of the Burton M. Cross Building, 111 Sewall Street in Augusta, from November 2, 2026 through February 26, 2027.
Artists may offer their artwork for sale, with all proceeds going directly to the artist.
Application Opens: Friday, July 31, 2026
Submission Deadline: Friday, September 25, 2026
ELIGIBILITY
The call is open to all Maine veteran artists.
Artists at all experience levels are encouraged to apply, including veterans who are new to artmaking or who have not previously exhibited their work.
ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS
- Artists may submit up to two pieces of visual artwork.
- Only two-dimensional mounted or framed artwork will be accepted.
- Each piece must weigh no more than 20 pounds.
- Artwork may be displayed vertically or horizontally. Please indicate the intended orientation.
- Each piece must be labeled on the back with the artist’s name and contact information.
- Artwork must be securely framed or professionally mounted on a hard surface.
- Artwork must arrive ready to hang with securely attached picture wire.
- Do not send or deliver artwork in cylinders or mailing tubes.
APPLICATION REVIEW AND NOTIFICATION
Artwork submissions will be reviewed following the September 25 deadline.
All applicants will be notified of their application status by October 5, 2026. Selected artists will receive additional information about artwork drop-off, installation, and next steps.
EXHIBITION CELEBRATION
Selected artists will be invited to a public celebration at the Maine State House on Thursday, November 19, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Additional details will be provided to participating artists.
